At dusk, in the bathroom, I reclaim myself. Here, among the purifying salves and brushes, the anointing lotions and perfumes. Here, with my shimmering strands gracing the sink basin. In the dim evening glow, I lean into my reflection and remove the black armor from my lashes, strip the churchblood red stain from my lips. Here, I’m reminded to move slowly, to revel in the reveal. Here, I remember I’m holy.
